Landscaping - Garden Clean Up

This has been a really crazy winter everywhere.  Even here in the desert, we had some really cold temps and down to freezing a couple of times.  That really wreaks havoc on plants designed for hot weather.  Now our temperatures are perfect and it is definitely a great time to be outside.  Time to do a lot of yard clean up, cup back and replant.  I also like to take this time and give the house a good wash down with the hose.

We have a small home typical of most homes in Arizona.  Stucco, with a tile roof and not a lot of architectural detail.  I do enjoy our small porch, and this is definitely great weather for enjoying the rockers.

We can grow a few tropical plants that are typically indoor plants in other places, so I enjoy a few of those on the porch.  I need to find a new table to go between the rockers, I borrowed the garden stool and use it in the master bedroom.  Oh, well, that's a good excuse to go shopping.

A few more tropical plants by the front door.  I need to replace all of the plants next to the walk, they didn't make it through the cold weather.

Instead of a wreath I did a basket, I like it for a change.

Time to get some new plants in and then enjoy those rockers.

  1. It love the rockers.

My bouganvilla did not make it; it didn't have enough of a root system to come back. In fact the ones available now look bad, so I'm going to wait to replace.

I really like hibiscus, but I get southern exposure and it's too hot for it. It might be able to make it my backyard, but that's a whole other story. They look pretty in pots too, so if you have afternoon shade and if they are HOA allowed, it could be pretty, because it gives gorgeous, large flowers for several months.

  4. Good Afternoon Marty, I love your terrace, somewhere nice and cool to sit during the hot summers. We enjoyed our porch when we lived in Cyprus, but England does not really have the weather to enjoy a porch with such lovely plants. The plants you have shown, we grow indoors. Sending you best wishes from India, where I am admiring the beautiful plants which grow here, Daphne

  6. I love your rocking chairs on your front porch area, Marty. I'd be out there having breakfast and my morning tea. I like your basket on the front door and your big planters of greenery. We had an inch of snow last night so your porch looks very appealing to me right now. Blessings, Pamela

  8. I took a walk yesterday while it was sunny and almost 50 degrees here. Many people were out clearing out their gardening beds. I finally saw some green shoots coming up for the daffodils and tiny buds on bushes. Unfortunately, we have a Winter storm coming in today {crazy}. At our condo they have someone do the beds in the Spring and Fall, so I'm just planning on what I would like to plant in them this year.

  9. Your home is just beautiful Marty...:) The rockers on the porch are so pretty and I love the door basket! Oh...I was reading one of your posts the other day and you mentioned going to The Claim Jumper to eat. I ate there several years ago when I was out west for a funeral. That was one of the coolest places I've eaten. I could not get over the size of the cake slices! I would love to return some day!

  10. Your porch looks really nice...and your tree has leaves. But then I have to remember you're in AZ. It's cold and rainy again here, (sigh). I'm so ready for Spring weather. It's too cold to plant yet. But, the good thing is that I can sit here on the couch, visit you and see what you're up to. :)
Hugs and have a great Sunday,
    Babs

  11. My hybiscus are coming back...yeah!...but my bougainvilla...didn't. I will try again! What a winter. I hope we don't see that next year. It is just too hard to keep covering, and it didn't do any good this year anyways....

  14. Your home is so pretty, so different from the area I'm in! Tropical plants wouldn't survive over the winter indoors here! I'm happy you are able to get out and dig in the dirt!

  33. I love how homes are so different depending on where you live. Every once in a while, I see a stucco here in the Pacific Northwest (which is crazy to do here) Your home is beautiful and everything you do to it is as well.

  34. Marty your porch is lovely. I live in Michigan and I look with longing at your sweet porch with your tropical plants. I love the basket on your door. I think I almost like that better than a wreath. Have fun shopping for fun new additions. I have stopped by often through link parties. I can't believe I never clicked that follow button. I will before I leave today. Visiting from The Dedicated House. Blessings, Wanda
