New Color Scheme for the Family Room

I love making pillows and changing accessories to create a different look and with a new sewing machine, of course I definitely had to sew up some new colors and fabrics.  I found some really fun fabrics, checks, polka dots, leopard, a big floral and a solid.  All of that worked for a super fun new look.

This is the color scheme that has been in the room for a while, and I love it, just time for a change.

I like for my living/dining and family/breakfast area to have some visual continuity since they are open to each other, but I don't think they have to have the exact same color scheme.  The check fabric is what I am using the unify and tie the two spaces together.

I also used the check as the runner on the breakfast table.  You can see the check in the living/dining post here.  I used a lot of green as my accent color in those areas.

The accent color I am using this time is a soft camel/pumpkin color.  I loved the floral fabric I found and then just picked several other fabrics to coordinate.

I love to find one fabric and then just use it as the jumping off point for a whole collection of fabrics.

A small polka dot and an animal print just added fun.

Here is a close up of those two fabrics, they really show up like this in person, just not so much in the pic.

Fun new change and I had a ball using my new sewing machine.

  8. Marty I haven't been on your site in so long! Forgot how much I enjoy your blog and decorating style. Love the pillow fabric especially the first one you bought to use as the jumping off point for the other coordinates. I agree that the two connecting rooms don't have to be (and shouldn't be) exactly alike! Enjoy the rest of your summer if I don't chat with you again before it's over.

  16. This is very pretty, Marty! I've never been crazy about leopard print but I really, really like this pillow with the smaller print. All of your pillows are terrific, glad you love the new machine! I think this color scheme is going to last you right through fall. So pretty!!

  18. I love ALL of your new pillows and fabrics, Marty! I wanted to ask; do you use pillow inserts? I am thinking you must or you would need a LARGE ROOM to store all your pillows:):) XO, Pinky

    1. Yes, I usually put zippers in all of mine, so then I can just trade out the inserts. I finally have them all switched out to feather inserts, I like them so much better than the poly ones. I keep a plastic bin in the garage that holds all of the pillows that I'm not currently using.

  19. I kept switching back and forth between before and after to see if there wasn't something else besides the pillows that was changed. AMAZING that just the pillows makes such a HUGE difference in appearance and feel of the room! Love it!

  47. I love your style, I am pretty well a "neutral" kind of girl mixing patterns and textures to add interest to my small cottage. I am in the process of a makeover of my guest room, all is finished except the window treatments (hopefully I will be revealing next week a sneak peek). I have mixed patterns and textures in very similar colours to your cushions. I wrote a post on my ideas and mood board, please have a look if you have time. The cushions are complete and look fabulous on the bed. White and beige checked duvet/comforter my pillows are checks, toile, tartan and one has wild animals (a bit different) but all are in beige tones. I have made a lovely beige linen headboard which I will be posting DIY instructions soon. The theme is a touch of the Hamptons mixed with Ralph Lauren style. I can't wait to take photos of the completed room.
