Updating The Bookcases With New Treasures

Sometimes I change these bookcases up a lot and then for some reason they stay the same for a long time.  Must be laziness - haha.  Anyway, I found a new treasure on a recent shopping trip with a friend, so of course that called for a little rearranging.

I have looked for bookends for a while that I liked, then all of a sudden today I spotted these.  They have such a pretty patina and detail, love at first sight.  They're even more special since a dear friend sent me a gift card.  Now I will think of her every time I see them.

Of course that meant a little rearranging of the bookcases.  Summer always makes me think of travel, the country, horses and green meadows.  So a theme sort of fell in place with travel globes, exotic treasures, timeless books and equestrian items.

My new bookends are perfect with this "stable " painting.

This side took on a travel and nostalig theme also with my Huckleberry Finn Leather bound edition.

I love to create little vignettes within vignettes on the shelves, it helps them tell a story.

  1. I adore reading. In fact, I was an English major in college. I love bookends and I like how you used books that fit your theme in your bookcase vignettes. Very nice!

  2. It takes a long time to style vignettes to have a meaning, let alone cohesiveness. You did a fine job with yours, Marty, and I love the stories evident on each and every shelf. The horse bookends are handsome!

  4. Great balance and organization, not to mention all the cool things. Painting the backs of your cabinets reminds me I have to back my china cabinet shelves. I'm going to use mat board to match my walls or contrast, but then I can change them seasonally at moderate cost.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to update my shelves.

  5. Looks wonderful! I've been a little lazy changing out my vignettes as well. I still have spring decor out, and I'm thinking it's too late to do summer now! Time just goes faster the older I get!

  10. I can't help but notice there are a couple of greyhounds on those shelves, too, Marty ;) We have our share of greyhound statues in this house! Your shelves look really nice, and I love the patina of your beautiful old books.
