Time For A "Me" Birthday Makeover and Checkup

Every year on my birthday I try to give myself a makeover - nothing radical, just current makeup, a few new outfits to keep my wardrobe fresh and a health checkup.  As I age I am more aware than ever about my heart, brain and eyes.  We all make sure the family is taken care of and that should include us.
This is a picture of me last fall right after I had my "Birthday" makeover: new hair color and new makeup.
Now truth be told, the reason I am hiding behind that chair is I have gained a few lbs. - ok 25lbs - and I don't like it, so I am trying to hide.  This has made me get my act together and start watching what I eat and exercising a little to get that weight off.  Time to take care of me. I recently heard about life'sDHA®.
We hear so much about our brains and how we should keep active, but we also need to make sure we are taking care of our eyes and our heart.  When we were younger and having our children, the doctors made sure that we had all the proper nutrients to not only feed our unborn child, but to keep us healthy too.  After they were born, we took great care to make sure they had the proper nutrition and checkups.

Somewhere along the line it seems like a lot of us forgot to make sure we had the same things.  The older we get the more important it is.  It's never too late to make sure we take care of ourselves.

life'sDHA® is a high-quality vegetarian source of DHA omega-3 sourced from algae. Research shows that DHA supports brain and eye health throughout life.  life’sDHA® is an ingredient in foods, beverages and supplements throughout the world. Look for the life’sDHA® logo on product packaging to know you’re getting a vegetarian source of DHA omega-3.
This year I am making sure that I take as good care of my body as possible.   Eating healthy - checking labels for those DHA omega-3s and exercising.  I have lost 10 lbs, so that is a good start, but I still have a way to go.
Even if it isn't your birthday, it is time to think about your health.  Spend some time learning about life'sDHA® and give yourself some extra care.
This post sponsor – life’sDHA® - educated me on the importance of nutrients – including DHA omega-3 – for all stages of life.

  1. Marty, I have gained weight too and for the life of me can NOT get it off! I have to get back to walking, this summer it has been so darn hot I didn't get out there. I also need to watch more carefully what I am eating. Thanks for the reminder!!!

  2. Love the picture of you on the porch! Pounds, what pounds? ha! This is good information for all of us, not just us perfectly seasoned gals. Diabetes runs in my family and I have to be careful what I eat or drink. Gone are the days of big dinners and big desserts, which in all actuality, none of us needs. Did you do a mini-makeover-refresh this year for your birthday?

    1. No not yet, I am waiting to take the weight off and then do a new wardrobe. I need one badly. That always inspires me to update the hair and makeup too.

  4. You are such a beautiful lady, Marty. You don't look fat, but I can understand one not feeling our best. I lost 18 pounds four years ago, buy just stopping to eat carbs, sweets and fat, except for olive oil. I have kept them off, gaining 4 pounds on trips, or good times on vacations... and shedding them right away going back to my 'way of living' I mentioned before.
Happy birthday and much blessings sweet lady.

  5. Hi Marty,
Weight is always the hardest thing to deal with in life as we get older. I think it is great that you will treat yourself to a new wardrobe after the weight comes off. Happy Birthday.

  7. Marty,
Your beauty radiates from within, dear friend!
I'm finding that aging is n o t easy on me, either!
Like you, I have begun to make wiser choices in my diet.
This past week, I began an exercise class called 'Fit For Life'.
I've been s o r e in all the right places, so this must be working.
Also, making myself get out and walk during the week!
I agree 100% that a few new wardrobe accessories, make~up and hair style
does wonderful things for ones self~esteem!
Happy Birthday! Celebrating You. . .all that you are and all that you will become!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  10. Happy Birthday Marty. I am ashamed of myself as I have gained back 10 lbs of the 40 that I lost. I know it is due to steroids, but I just can't seem to get into the mood. So have inspired me to get back with the program. I really watch my carb, which is my downfall.

Have a terrific rest of the week.
    Mary
