The Walk In Pantry

Another great feature of the "Builder Basic".  I love having a big pantry so I can see everything that I have.  In my last home it was a closet, so things were stuck behind each other.  This is so much better.

This wonderful pantry more than makes up for the lack of cabinet space.  It's a great size - 41/2ft wide x 61/2ft deep.

Plenty of room not only for food but for small appliances and often used dishes.

Plenty of room for canned good and staples - - -

and all those small things that seem to get lost.  This wall was blank, so hubby added two of the over the door shelving units.  The brackets screw right into the studs, so they are really sturdy.  You can see all my spices and baking needs so easily now.

Combine this with my "Dish Room" and I have a really fantastic kitchen.

How about you, do you have a big pantry?  This one is my first and I am loving it and this house more and more.

  1. What a wonderful pantry! I have a skinny pantry style cabinet which anchors the outside of the refrigerator that just barely works. I would adore having something like this! You have made a great choice with this home!

  5. You are finding such great storage space in your new home! We have a walk-in pantry very similar to yours - 51"x63" - and we're spoiled. We don't have a wonderful dish room like yours, so ours also houses beverage canisters, pet food bins, and serving pieces. So happy for you that your new home is full of pleasant surprises!

  7. Love it and you are going to love having all that space. Mine is a large but deep cupboard. Our other one was wide and shallow, much easier to get to things. We have to add more shelves to make our new one more serviceable. On my to-do list for this year. I am having fun riding along with you on your new journey. So exciting!!

  8. I love your pantry and dream of having one like it. Since I live in a one bedroom apartment, space is at a premium. Even though my kitchen has a lot of cabinets for an apartment, I like to keep a large store of canned goods and staples "just in case". So I turned my coat closet into a pantry since it is directly across from the kitchen. I went to Home Depot and purchased almost the same thing as your hubby did except mine has much deeper shelves. It is wonderful to open the door and have everything so neatly stored and within reach.

  10. My pantry is deep cabinets beside my refrigerator. We had pull out shelves installed, and it's made all the difference in the world. Love your pantry and storage areas!

  12. I have such a small kitchen that I don't even store food in my cabinets. However, I do have large, floor to ceiling closets, and I converted one that is 2 feet deep, 8 feet tall, and 8 feet wide into my pantry! I have both built-in shelves and a steel shelving unit, and both are quite sturdy to hold lots of heavy cans, small appliances, and other things. Yes, it would be more convenient to have this closet in the kitchen, but one has to made do with what one has, correct? I am also looking forward to seeing what you will be doing with your new house; it's going to be fun!

  13. Marty, we have a very small pantry, and not walk in. I could certainly use such a space as this.

  14. Thst is so nice to have such a large pantry. I think it is a lot better than having extra cabinets. I would rather see everything plus there is less bending over to get things out of the lower base cabinets than if you didn't have a pantry. I always prefer having my appliances in a pantry however in this place, they are all in one lower base cabinet. You are a very lucky woman! I have a small pantry however I put in the adjustable racks like you did and it works great. I would love to have one double the size though. Thanks for showing us your home. It is fun to follow along. And the builder basic is just great. It can be so expensive trying to undo somebody's work to get it the way you like. That is a 50% savings in itself, lol.

  15. That's a wonderful pantry! We had a big pantry in the house we just moved out of. I just loved walking in and feeling like I was at my own little grocery store. :)

  16. I have 2 TINY pantries that I can not seem to keep neat. One is just for food and the other has all kinds of stuff in it. The one with the "stuff" drives me crazy, I have to figure out a better system! I LOOOVE your new one. It is fabulous!

  17. Is it weird that seeing this makes me extremely gleeful?

    It is SO organized!

  18. I know you are going to love it! I have one a little bit bigger, i could never live without it from now on! All our appliances, all our food, one entire shelf of cookbooks, carpet cleaner, vacumun cleaner you name it is in there...Oh and Pyrex!. It originally was a bathroom but the pipes froze I was told by a neighbor. It also was a coat closet, but Mr and I made it into just a pantry. I wish I had the bathroom but I could never give it up!

  19. I long for a true pantry! The house we just sold didn't have one, and our apartment doesn't either. Hopefully when we buy a house this fall we can find one with a gorgeous walk-in pantry like yours. Love your new home, Marty!

  20. Oh, my goodness, Marty! You have a walk - in pantry! It's marvelous and I love all the space you have and how smart of your hubby to add those wire shelves! I had a walk - in pantry once and it was my hubby's joy. He called it 'his store' and kept everything all neat. I just have a closet now. It has lots of shelves but I loose things because they are stacked in front of things. I know I've said it before but I am really so proud for you, Marty, on your new home!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  22. Always intended to do a post on my pantry before and after - last January we completely gutted it and re-configured it to be an AMAZING space with smart, sturdy room. A year later and I haven't posted about it, but still keeping it tidy and smart and usable. I found that due to the fact that I can find everything so quickly I bake and cook more often. It's really made a huge difference to us. Who knew?

I always was blessed with a large pantry - but it was such a dumb design. Oh, it's awesome now. I wonder if I kept my old "before" pics.............I really need to do a post on that if I did. Seriously. Or maybe - like you - I will just show it as it is now one day soon.

Love your new vinyl lined shallow shelves your hubs put in - super awesome use of that wall!
    Well done, Marty! : - )

  23. I never had a pantry before we moved a few years ago, either. It and my little hobby room, which is just a large walk-in closet upstairs, are the two things I love the most about our home. I also asked the builder to put in pullout drawers under our stovetop and dividers in the cabinet above our microwave for cookies sheets, etc.... Wow. No more getting on my knees to pull out pots and pans. No more pulling out stacks of bakeware, etc. I'm so happy for you because I know how it feels to have everything in such a wonderful space.

  27. Such a wonderful pantry!...I have an "open" pantry that I also use as my coffee room...I guess it is like a Butler's pantry with cabinetry.

  33. I think everything published was very logical.
However, consider this, what if you were to write a awesome
post title? I ain't saying your content is not solid., but what
if you added a title to possibly grab folk's attention? I mean "The Walk In Pantry" is a little vanilla.
You might peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they write article headlines to grab people to click.
You might add a related video or a related picture or two
to get readers interested about everything've written. Just my opinion, it might make
    your website a little livelier.
