Today's Thrifty Treasures

Thanks to Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality for hosting this fun event. Be sure to go check her blog to see a list of all the treasures everyone has found this past week.

I don't usually do garage sales because I usually either see mostly clothes or furniture and I couldn't fit another piece of furniture in this house with a shoe horn. However I passed one the other day that had a big table of dishes, so of course I had to stop. I found a few treasures that I just had to have.

Look at these wonderful candlesticks. I've seen similar ones at Home Goods and Ross but they were usually pretty expensive and I didn't want to spend that kind of money. These beauties are huge and were $3 ea. I think they're great on the dining room table. Love them.

Now this was my REAL TREASURE!!! I am just crazy about it. A birdie topped cloche and glass plate. It is also huge, over l4 inches tall. I have been wanting a cloche and they are always really expensive. I know I've seen this one somewhere, but I don't remember where. I got this one for $10. I think that's a really great price. Ok now ladies, I don't know what to put inside it, so I need lots of suggestions and help.

This is what I've done so far, a little birdhouse and some forsythia. It's ok, but I think could be a whole bunch better. Now since I see so many of you ladies have these wonderful cloches and have them decorated so beautifully, maybe one of you will do a meme and have everyone post their cloche and ideas on how to decorate with them. That would be a lot of fun and give everyone a lot of inspirational ideas. So, ok, who's game?

I also got this small cloche and plate with the little figurine in it for $2. It is really small, but I just couldn't pass it up. I love the finial top on it.

She also had these 6 bowls that are brown and white with a pretty farm scene on them. They say English Ironstone Ltd. I don't know the pattern name. If any of you do I would really appreciate it. You can enlarge the pic to see the details.

They are wonderful soup bowls and all in perfect condition. These were $2 for all six.So my total came to $20 for the lot. I was really proud of myself. She had a lot of pretty furniture also, not my style, but obviously this lady had great taste.

I love this pretty dish. It is my latest GW find. I think it will be gorgeous to serve rolls in or maybe napkins rolled with the silverware for a buffet. It was $4.

That was my weeks shopping and thrifting treasures. I really think I did good.
Thanks for stopping by, I so enjoy your visits and hope you'll come back soon.

  1. Wow, I've never seen a cloche like the one with the bird! Isn't that ultra cute! I don't think I could fit in another piece of furniture with a shoe horn either! Loved that vision.

  2. Wow. I have so given up on garage sales around here. They are full of tools and games in torn boxes with the junkiest pieces of furniture.
You did great with the cloche and I think you should start the meme. C'mon you can do it. I would join in but I don't have a cloche of my own. Sigh.

  29. Great finds. Your cloche is from Wisteria and you got an awesome deal as I just ordered that one last week and it was $59.
    Good job girl.

  30. You certainly found some treasures! My garage sale finds were the only great ones I've come across but this weekend our entire town advertises sales so I hope to find some more nice things-except we are hoping to move(across the street)in a couple of months so what am I thinking?
    Have a great week.

  31. Marty,

Thank you for the encouraging words. And, yes...that lamp was a "gift" from the builders. We've been wanting to replace it for almost 5 years. We finally found one we both Home Depot!!

I have seen bowls similar to your brown ones, except they were a soft dusty rose color. They look like collectibles...very pretty! You got a great deal.

I grew up in Chandler, AZ. Do you know where that is at?

I hope you have a blessed week.

  32. Hi Marty~ ~ ~Don't you love a bargain? You made some great buys. Thanks for stopping by for a visit~ ~Ahrisha~ ~

  33. I want every single thing you found!! Those pillar sticks are lovely and even better that you found a pair.

  34. Hi Marty
Thanks for coming to my porch party today. You got some great finds at garage sales!
    Hugs, Rhondi

  35. You did well! I love the tall cloche, what a great price..The white bowl is perfect as you said, for rolls or wrapped silver. And the soup bowls are wonderful!
    You cleaned up!

  36. You have a great eye for bargains and you sure made out great this week! I am especially in love with that bird topped cloche. I still don't have a cloche, but am keeping my eye out for one. I wish I had suggestions on how to fill it, but I guess I'll try to figure that out to when I finally get one someday.

  37. Whoa! Did they get it all cleaned out of your car??

My clean up was easy, just not what I wanted to do at the time. Coke managed to get on every shelf. But, it was on a cold, smooth surface. My fridge was in need of a wipe down anyway. So, I guess it was a blessing in disguise. =)

  38. I adore the cloche, but I like the white lacy basket just about as well! You did great on your venture into yard sale-ing!

  39. Marty~you have some great finds there! I especially love the bird cloche and that white dish on the bottom! I saw a beautiful display in a PB book where they filled a glass jar with dried hydrangea leaves and then rested a black and white photo on top~it was so lovely. Thank you so much for all of your supportive, kind comments. Have a wonderful day!

  40. Love your wonderful treasures. The little lady was my favorite. I collect lady figurines. She was pretty.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

  41. Oh there you go again Marty, finding all those fabulous things! The little cloche with the figurine? I could swear that looks a lot like the Princess House light that I use to sell years ago. Just turn it right side up and put a tea light in the bottom!? It hung by a small chain and we also used it for displaying greenery! If it's not, is sure does look like it! Hey the plate it's sitting on is PH too!? LOL! Great pieces! Luanne

  42. Marty you found the prettiest new treasures!
    I just adore your
    new birdie cloche too.
I'll have to find a cloche soon so I can partipate in your Mr Linky party.
    What a great idea!

    Have a blessed day.
    ~Melissa :)

  43. Marty, your finds amaze me! What beautiful treasures. Those candlesticks are gorgeous. I have never seen such a tall cloche, and the bell-shaped one is so cute! Those bowls are fabulous! And that white dish at the end is so pretty. The prices on all of these are amazing! I REALLY want to go shopping with you. You are a fantastic bargain hunter! laurie

  44. My goodness! You found so many pretties for such great prices. And I see now why you want to have a cloche party. That bird cloche is so cool! I've never seen one like it.

  45. Oh Marty, I'm IN LOVE with that white porcelain basket -- it's gorgeous! Wow, now that is my idea of a GW treasure.

The candlesticks and your garage sale finds are amazing -- I too rarely stop at yard or garage sales -- too often they are baby items or toys or other things I don't want. I'd sure have screeched to a stop for THESE things!

    Fantastic. Cass

  46. I adore your GW find...Wow, who would part with such a fab dish?! And the birdie cloche...I'm am salivating over that beauty! Love it!
