Wow, we're at #80. That is amazing. Thank you guys so much for all the wonderful links each week. You always inspire me.
Since I have been reading tons of decorating books looking for inspiration to change things up a bit, I have seen so many vignettes that create a really cute reading corner. So I thought I would add to the one I started in the livingroom.
While I love seeing all the painted furniture in everyone's homes, I have to admit that my true love is my dark wood furniture. This is one of my favorite pieces. I bought this little chest in 1970 at the Design Mart in LA. It is an import from England and I instantly fell in love with all the fabulous detail.
Even the sides and back of this piece have gorgeous detail.
Even with the love of dark wood, sometimes you want something to lighten a piece up a bit.
Then I just pulled together some things from around the house that had an old world feel to me and made me think "library".
Is there a spot in your home where you can create a special place to sit and read. Maybe just a small quiet little corner like mine.
Be sure to link up below, I can't wait to see all of your vignettes.
Also, if you want to see more of what I am up to, just like me on FB. You'll find some different posts there.
Gorgeous, Marty!

ReplyDeleteYour cabinet is gorgeous, Marty. Such lovely detail in your reading nook.
ReplyDeleteHoping I meet the criteria as I concentrated more on the orchid than I did on the table.
Thanks for being a gracious hostess!

ReplyDeleteHi Marty...

ReplyDeleteI have on shabby chic room in my home, and the guest bedroom has oak furniture. But the rest of the house is cherry wood!
Great reading vignette and it looks so great beside the reading chair/books on the floor.

I'm with you, Marty, I still love my WOODS!!!! I even have all our woodwork stained rather than painted. I am thinking about painting PARTS of my kitchen a chairs black though to liven them up a bit;):) Love your vignette!!!! That is a beautiful piece too. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteMarty, I am with you. While the painted furniture looks nice, I still like the dark wood the best. I love your reading corner-it will be so cozy this winter to curl up with a good book.
ReplyDeleteMarty - You stage things so nicely! Love what you do with the scarves - I would never have thought to use scarves & shawls until I started following your blog. I hope one day to join your linky party if my house ever gets back in order. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteConnie (akaLOU)
What fun...we both like dark wood furniture and both have posted this week about a great find!
ReplyDeleteI did my table top vignette on top of a new piece that I got last Friday and blogged about on Monday.
Hope you can come for a visit.

How cozy! I do so love your dark wood...I'd keep some pieces wood if they were as pretty as that!! And the whole set-up is just so perfect! I LOVE that bird lamp. You are very talented!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great link party...so fun!!
Love this vignette Marty!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting TTT for us all!
Hugs,
Nancy
Wow Marty...I LOVE that reading nook. I know I say it every time, but your home is sooo gorgeous! I had to laugh though, when you mentioned about not painting furniture...I just spent all day today painting my dining room table and a mantle that my hubby and his friends made today!! {lol} Actually to tell you the truth I think I like a little of both, and if I could find a beautiful piece in the varnished wood, I wouldn't paint it either! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend,
ReplyDeleteJessica
When something is quality like your wooden chest, I believe it transcends current decorating trends like painted furniture fad. Don't you think all this light/white decor stuff we're seeing everywhere needs a little darkness to ground the vignette? Your reading nook is pretty and practicl.
ReplyDeleteWhat a warm, cosy nook. I could just curl up there and lose myself for hours in a good book. But back to reality... I am a new blogger and I really appreciate the chance to join your linky party. Thank you:)
ReplyDeleteLove your reading room corner. It's beautiful and inviting. I'd love to sit and browse through your decorating books. Very nice choice of pieces on the table...and like you, I enjoy my dark or medium stained furniture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting another great party.
Babs
Marty, my ♥ stopped when I read you wanted to "lighten up" that gorgeous piece of furniture!! I thought you were going to paint it white like so many do. THANK GOODNESS, you only added the pretty scarf!!! Whew!
ReplyDeleteIt makes for a beautiful little reading nook with all your wonderful accessories. I wish I changed my tabletops more often, like you do, so I could join in. I'm kinda boring & stuck in my ways, I guess. You inspire me with every post & I LOVE looking at everyone's linked posts.
Sorry that I have nothing to join in with today, although I could put my peach pie in, 'cus its ON a TABLE top! LOL
Hugs,
Rett
Loving your cozy "library corner"... it looks so inviting, makes you wanna curl up with a book. And that gorgeous piece of chest is so beautiful... love all the detail work on it. I like furniture with gorgeous detailing...it is so timeless! That elephant trinket box and bone magnifying glass add to the old world look wonderfully. Beautiful vignette,as always. Thanks for the party. Have a great week!~Poppy

ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy seeing painted furniture too, and do have some, but the dark wood is so rich and warm. Especially welcome on a cool, dreary, wet day such as today!
Love the beautiful furniture!!

Your little reading nook is perfect. Thanks for hosting yet another wonderful party! It's so much fun to start seeing all the wonderful "Fall" vignettes.

Well, Marty. Somehow it slipped past me the YOU are Table Top Tuesday. I've not linked up to your party because in my mind...I haven't done any table tops worth sharing. But I'm your newest follower (finally) and will certainly visit here often for inspiration. What a beautiful blog! You are wonderful! And your reading nook looks beautiful. I think you are the go-to person for vignettes.
ReplyDeletefran
Hi, Marty. I love vignettes too--they're so fun to create. And I love the way you created a theme with it--what a good idea! Rather than just pretty things grouped by color, or other common threads, yours was based on the idea of adventure--very clever! Your corner looks lovely. Cup of tea while you're enjoying it? Oh, and I forgot to mention--your cabinet is beautiful too.
