I keep seeing gold leaf on clear vases and decanters and they are all so beautiful, but the price is usually beautiful too, so I thought I would see if I could make one.
I found this cylinder vase at TJMaxx on the clearance aisle for $2.99. Nice shape and size so I think it will be perfect for this project. First thing I did was wash it in really hot soapy water. I used a grease cutting soap (Dawn) and then rinsed it really well and dried it thoroughly. Now it was sparkly clean.
I taped off a line where I wanted the gold to be using frog tape. I am just going to paint the lower section.
Super simple, just a few light sprays with my 24 Karat Pure Gold spray paint and it is gorgeous. You can buy this paint at Michaels and it goes a long way. No need for heavy coats. Now this isn’t like using the real gold leaf papers, however it looks the same, so that works for me.
I had a really small rectantular vase, so I gave it a few stripes too.
I love the size of the round vase. A simple bouquet of tulips on a white tray and it becomes the star of the show.
I filled the vase with clear glass marbles to hold the stems in place. These are my faux tulips from the Dollar Tree. They look pretty good don’t you think?
A lovely vignette for my dresser, perfect for spring.
My kind of DIY, super inexpensive and easy. So, what kind of projects have you been doing lately?
