We finally started looking at an area a little newer and about 5 miles north of our targeted area. We found a home within our budget and one that I think I could work with. My main concern was LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION. You know what they say. You can change a lot about a house, but you can't change the location. So that was my biggest concern. I was trying to find a home I could afford in an UPSCALE area and this one is.
This is the home we made an offer on. Good bones, built in 2002 - 1982sf. 3 bdrm & loft - 2.5 bathrooms and a good price, plus a really GREAT location. This home is one of the smaller homes in the area.
Living - Dining room as seen from the front door. You can see the sliding door through the opening to the family room and then out to the backyard.
master bath - you can't get more builder basic than this
The main appeal of this house is the fact that it is affordable, in a great location with much more expensive homes and a blank slate. Really and truly builder basic so I don't have to work around a lot of upgrades that I really don't like. This is not what I would call my dream home, but one I think I can turn into a very comfortable place for us. It will be nice to be closer to family and to be able to enjoy all those spur of the moment get-togethers. This home puts us about 5 miles north or south from family, so it's a great location.
Now we go on to listing our home and going through the inspection process of this home. So we will see, still not a done deal, but at least the process is started.
If you like Thrifty & Chic on a Budget, I would love to have you follow me.

Love it, Marty! I know that everything will go smoothly, and you'll be decorating your beautiful new home before you know it!

ReplyDeleteI can just envision your decorating touches throughout the home, Marty! And you're so right about it being easier to replace builder grade features, rather than replacing pricier upgrades that you just don't like. So happy for you and your hubby and wishing you well on buying and selling. I know your family is so thrilled at the thought of you living closer to them. So exciting!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! This house is a gem and just waiting for your touch to bring it to life!

Marty praying it all works out for you! I know you will make it into your dream home over time. You are right location location location! It took us several years to find a house in the right location for us.
ReplyDeleteWill you grow weary with going up and down the stairs?
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Best thing about it, close to family!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo, I'm super excited for you - best of luck with the whole process!! ps....I don't envy you the whole packing and moving nightmare....but the end result will be worth it!
ReplyDeleteWill will have that house looking so classy in no time
ReplyDeleteAnd a pool sounds so divine
You will do that house well. Good luck. It is a great, CLEAN slate.
ReplyDeleteI like it...and you will make it great. I am helping my parents transition to a newer downsize from their home of almost thirty years. They are finishing a builder started home...and I have been helping with selections, etc. Their house is one the market. It gets tense...but this will put my older/elderly parents near me, eldest child/daughter. My mom is getting her very first custom kitchen after 60+ years of marriage. :-) I hope they will let me blog about it.
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteBest of luck in your endeavors, dear friend!
The main reason we chose to move to this side of the Prairie
was to be 5 minutes North from our son and daughter~in~law.
Not our dream home, but a home with "good bones" it has been
quite comfortable or us and we have never regretted making this move!
In no time at all, you'll take this new home from basic builder to Cosmopolitan Chic!
Fondly,
Pat
This sounds exciting Mary.
ReplyDeleteBeing near family is our plan too.
I am excited for you!
Congratulations Marty!
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful. I am speechless. I never see this type of house before. Fallen in love with your home.
Wow, I didn't know you've been looking around, Marty! I've been preoccupied with the ORC and finishing everything. I love what you've chosen and I'm hoping everything works out for you. My parents lived in the Phoenix area for over 20 years, so I'm pretty familiar with many areas around there.
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best in this transition! Prayers for all things to be good at both houses. I know we won't recognize the "after" with your talents! :)

I hope it all works out for you Marty I new home always puts some spring in your step and gives you lots of new projects to do.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Marty! I hope that everything goes smoothly and once in, I can't wait to see what you do to the place with your great designer's eye! : )
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nice home, but are you sure you want to live in a 2 story house? We downsized to an all level ranch home after two unexpected surgeries and it's been pure heaven not having those stairs to deal with. We never know what life will hand us as we age, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog so much. Your decorating is quite beautiful and I always come away with some great new ideas!
Such a gorgeous home, and I can't wait to see what you do with it. That living room space is simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Im so glad its yours!
ReplyDeleteWonderful bones and nothing to undo and correct! It will be gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat area... close to where you were before?
~Liz
Congratulations! Oh the backyard is so common for here! One tree is probably a bonus. Phoenix grew so fast with out of towners that I think people didn't know how to landscape. Old or new, there are so many empty yards. Either the plants were killed, because they didn't know how to care for desert plants (you have to water sometimes) or empty, because they did not know what to plant.
