Blast From The Past & A Personal Update

I had back surgery on June 26th.    I have been having back problems for quite a while.   They did a bone graph, inserted two rods and 4 screws and put me back together.  When I finish healing and rehab I should be good as new.  At the present I am home and am very limited as to what I can do.  My main thing for the next 2 weeks is I can’t bend or twist.   They told my hubby I had to have someone do all the shopping, cooking and cleaning, plus help with bathing and dressing.  After the look of sheer panic went over him, I think he arranged sufficient help to get this all done.  I am going to enjoy this part of it while it lasts. haha    I have a few posts scheduled and of course some of the neatest people in all of blogland have offered to do guest posts for me.  I know you will enjoy their posts.  I will keep you updated as to my progress.

While I am recovering and not able to do too much, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at a “BLAST FROM THE PAST”.

There were quite a few posts that I did years ago that have still been pinned and viewed thousands of times, so I thought I would share them again here.  This has been one of the most popular ones.

Guest Bedroom Makeover. (Dec. 2012)

Time to create a Guest Bedroom.  Our third bedroom had been a storage space for my youngest sons stuff for a couple years, so when he found a house and took all of his things, it needed to be completely redone.

First up was to give the room a good cleaning, shampoo the carpet and then paint.  I picked out a soft camel colored beige (Fioli Antique Lace from Lowes)  The room already looked 100 % better.

I had some leftover fabric from making the familyroom drapes and it was just enough to do two simple lined panels for the window.  This is a small room, so I loved that the panels were in the same color family as the paint and just blended into the wall.

The bed was put in place and some new linens were purchased.

I found this comforter at Goodwill and bought the plaid fabric and made the dust ruffle.  I like the two patterns together.

Starting to shape up.  Now I know that the hosier and kitchen work table aren’t supposed to be in a bedroom, but I didn’t have any place to use them, so I decided to make them work.  I decorated the room with a hunt theme.

My antique toy horse and some riding  accessories for the top of the hosier.

The kitchen worktable makes a great nightstand on the other side of the bed.  More antiques were unpacked and used to decorate with.

I found some more bedding at Goodwill that will work for a great change, so of course it jumped in my basket.  A beautiful toile comforter and toile dust ruffle.  Love the black and red, plus I also found a new lamp for the hosier.

The toile comforter reverses to checks, this is fun too.

Great summer look to change the room up a bit.

At the foot of the bed I placed my antique butter churn in the corner.  Next to it is the lawyers bookcase with a lot of my dad’s antique woodworking tools.  A chair and it’s done.

When my son called to say that he would be coming down from Oregon to work for several months and could stay with us, I needed to make a more comfortable work area.  The top on the hosier pulls out to make a spacious desk area and a trip to Goodwill again for a nice comfy office chair was just what I needed.

While I was at Goodwill, I saw that they had all of their TV”s on sale for $1.  Now who in the world ever heard of a dollar TV.  I wanted a flat screen to go on top of the bookcase, however for $1, this 20″ one was practically new and just the right size to sit on the butter churn.  Perfect for now so he will have his own TV.

It was wonderful to get all the antique pieces out of storage and into use and I think the room turned out great.  Totally unexpected and so fun.

I love to find new uses for my Antiques and this was a fun bedroom to do.  Now my son from Oregon has a place to work and sleep when he comes for the winter.
