Choosing The Right Coffee Table For Our Small Living Room

If you are staying up to date on the Living Room Makeover Saga, then you know that since I removed the huge mirror, I have been auditioning replacement pieces for this room.

The coffee table I have been using is a beautiful traditional treasure that I love, however I am in the mood to give the room a more classic transitional feel.  This is not a large area so I really wanted something light and airy that didn't take up too much visual space.  I think I found the perfect piece.

My previous coffee table was a beautiful mahogany oval drop leaf table.  A beautiful table but I am ready for a change.  (I have moved it upstairs to the loft and it is perfect there.)

I love the soft champagne gold frame on the new one and the pretty beveled glass.   I also love that it has two shelves so I can display some of my favorite books.  A great 32" size.  I chose a square shape that would fit the space better than the 46" oval of my previous table.  I saw something similar on several different sites, however this one was the least expensive.  $134.34 from Overstock with a promo discount.   This is not a sponsored post, I just like to pass on great buys when I find them.

Several have asked.  The art is on loan from my daughter.  She had them hanging in her stairs and loaned them to me so I didn't have such a huge blank wall after I gave the mirror away.  They really are beautiful and look stunning in her home.  They are a really pretty abstract in shades of cream, gold, mint green, cocoa and have brass frames.

I am still trying to decide what I want on this wall. but at least I think I have the coffee table problem solved.

Ok, this is good for now, so on to the art or another mirror or - or - or.

So what do you think?  Did I make the right choice?

  1. I love your new coffee table Marty. It blends seamlessly with your lovely new art, and I love the way the light reflects off of it as well.

  3. I love it in your room and I also think I would love it in my living room as well. I have been looking for a replacement for my table exactly like yours and don't need anything too large. The price can't be beat so think it just might work. Did it require any assembly?

    1. Just to screw the legs to the side rails and that was really so easy.

  6. I love the table. Fits in beautifully. The pictures also but think a
slight bit of color would brighten up the room.

  8. While I like the new coffee table I think you have taken color out of the room and with it the feeling of cozy. I would like to see something with color added back. I am just not an all neutral person.

    1. Oh I so agree. I need some color, still working on that. This loaned art is pretty, but not easy to add color with it.

  9. Marty - lovely and well chosen as usual. You are exactly right - the table is GREAT and fits like a glove and loosens the space visually! I am thinking that you need to add some pops of black. I think every room needs a spot of black; in this case would visually ground the room. Perhaps some back contained in accessories - pillows, throws, vignettes. Thoughts? Penny - srmarymaid@aol.com

  14. The size of this coffee table fits better I think, yet it’s so light an airy it doesn’t feel heavy. You have styled it beautifully too!

  17. I think the table is perfect - love that look - lightens things up and isn't "bottom heavy" so really works nicely in this lovely space. I think it's just right, Marty - and I already told you I adore that artwork! : - )

    Well done.
