New Living Room Mirror - What Do You Think

I am still auditioning furniture, art and accessories for my Mini Living Room Makeover.  I have been using some art my daughter loaned me since I gave the Big Mirror away.  I do like it, but I really love a mirror in this small space.  I found this wonderful mirror and thought maybe since it was a good size it might work.  It has a substantial frame, a fun shape and is 46" wide and tall.

Here it is from about a gazillion angles.

As a refresher, here is the art on loan that I have to return.  I have been looking but I haven't found any art that I like, so I thought maybe try something different like a mirror again.

Change always throws me for a loop and it takes me a while to get used to anything new.  I'm so used to seeing that huge mirror that I use to have that anything else just seems so different.

Ok, give me your input.  I am all ears. Yes, no, maybe, try again, go with a painting, or ????????

  1. I love that mirror! The shape is beautiful and a little different from any other shape in the room. I think the gold is perfect. The size is perfect. And the light bouncing around is gorgeous. I'm considering this a keeper, Marty.

  7. Sorry to be a spoilsport. I think the mirror dominates everything else in the room. I liked your daughter's art better.

  8. LOVE the mirror, but also love the art. The mirror really does dominate the room, but it's just the right size and so unique!

  9. LOVE the mirror! I think it's a perfect size & shape & opens up the room !!!!

  10. Oh, Marty! I was loving the borrowed artwork and lamented you changing it - but wow, you sure nailed it.

This mirror is perfect - PERFECT! Size, size, color - well done, Marty! It looks amazing.

  11. That mirror is perfect! I was never a fan of the giant mirror but this is the perfect size and the shape is beautiful.

  12. Sorry Marty there's something not happening with the mirror it's pretty but doesn't look right!! The artwork makes the room have a warmer and more inviting look!

  13. I must agree with Mary. I really like the mirror - it is beautiful, but something is off with the scale on that large wall. I prefer the artwork. It definitely adds a touch of warmth that the mirror does not.

  14. I love the mirror, Marty! The shape is great and the gold really ties in. I also liked the artwork too so I think you have a winner either way!

  15. Hi Mary, please use the mirror. I think it's light and brifht and opens up the room. While the art was nice, I think it overwhelmed the space, just a bit. Your home is beautiful. It's so nice to have a look around. Thank you for inviting the "grace at home" family in.

  16. I love this mirror. The only thing I would do (if it were my room) is have one orange chair. THAT would totally make the room pop, although I know this is only a mini makeover. I'm with Tiffiney Holmes..... that artwork was overwhelming the space. Thanks for sharing your changes with us.

  17. Marty - I actually love both the art and the mirror. Right now, I am really liking the mirror in the room. I am thinking that the room is missing some greenery which I think would really bring it alive. Fiddleleaf or olive tree or something maybe put in a basket surround by the window. Give it a whirl - as they say -- what do you have to lose? I am thinking that may what's missing -- the "it" factor. Also, maybe a small pillow with orange in the chair to bring the eye to that area. Love your style as usual. srmarymaid@aol.com

  19. I love the mirror, but don't like it there. I feel like it has too many angles/lines that are competing the with wavy lines in the rug, the shape of the front window and the square tiles on the floor. If you want a mirror, I think a simple shape is best. I think that is why the coffee table fits in well.
I liked the art but would love to see something a little more bold in color. Who knows if I would like it :), because I'm one of those people who has to see it there to decide.

  20. The artwork is very nice but that mirror is perfection!

  21. Love this mirror Marty. It is so pretty and I love the unique shape to it. With all the light you get in this room it really reflects the light. Beautiful.

  22. Marty, I love this mirror and it’s shape, but I also loved the artwork. Whatever you decide, I know it will be perfect!

  23. You might consider retrieving the artwork. The mirror is lovely, but has too many angles which are competing with the shape of the windows in the same room. Seems as though there is enough light in that room in which you aren't forced to use the mirror to bring in more light. Should your daughter not want to relinquish her artwork, there is so much beautiful artwork to be found which would complete the look of your beautiful room.

  24. I like the more informal and modern look of the artwork.

  25. I like your new mirror, it's size is a nice compliment to your sofa and it looks good with your new coffee table. I'd call it a winning combination!

  26. The mirror is pretty...but I think a rectangle would suit the space better. Similar to the one you got rid of; maybe just a tad bit smaller.

  27. Liked the artwork. LOVE the mirror. Cool shape & bounces all the light around.

  28. To say we are all over the map on this one would be an understatement ! I like the mirror and the shape; but now only the coffee table has square sharp edges and sticks out. Bring back the other coffee table and test us. One of the problems with a really tall ceiling is when you take photos, we are seeing a lot of blank space, not eye level filled space like you are seeing walking around. Keep in mind, no matter what you do, we are going to like it. You have an excellent eye for decorating.

  29. I think the mirror is fabulous! I love the shape, color and style and I think it looks great just as it is. What I will say, and maybe it's my computer screen, because nobody else mentioned this but the room was SO bright when the picture was taken that you seem to have a partial 'white out' on the window side of the room in picture No. 1. There is no definition of the window or that corner of the room. The window/corner pictures 4,5 & 7 are so 'white' that it makes the mirror look very prominent, but I'm sure if we were standing in the room seeing it as you are, we would see that it enhances the entire room. Why don't you take another batch of pictures, without all that light streaming in.

Don't let this get you, Marty, you have a flair for decorating, and I think you made the right call with this lovely mirror.

  30. I liked the old mirror. I loved the artwork - it tied the whole room together in a very lovely way. I don't like this new mirror - to me, it stands out like a sore thumb (sorry to be so blunt).

  31. I like the mirror, just not in that spot in the room. I preferred your old mirror or the loaned art work. Can't wait to see what you end up with- this mirror or something else.

  32. Hi Marty! Oh boy, at first I liked the mirror. Then I liked the artwork. I think it is a toss up - they both have great appeal. I think the art is more cozy for winter and mirror would be pretty in spring & summer. So basically, I am no help in making a decision.😬 Jane

  33. Hi Marty
I love the size and color of the mirror. It seems heavy with lots of angles. Competes with the window. I do like Myrna’s suggestion. I’d try that first.
I know this can be trial and error.

My preference is a mirror for sure!

    Good luck and happy hunting!

  34. The mirror is fine, just turn it so the larger curve is up and the small curve is across. Other wise you need to raise it about 4-6 inches.

  35. Wow, lots of different opinions! I love them both but for different reasons. The mirror I love because, well, mirror! The artwork I love because the thin frames echo the coffee table lines and are a little more transitional. Slightly smaller pictures would be my vote, but I love the softness of the colors of the current ones.

  36. I love both the artwork and the mirror, but I think the mirror has a slight edge! It reflects the light from the window and makes the room sparkle. I have featured your post at Thursday Favorite Things. Thanks for sharing!
