A New Chair For The Entry

How to give your entry character and definition - that is what I have been asking myself.  My entry isn't a separate area, you open the door and walk right into my living/dining area on the right and a really tall two story wall on the left.  That is the area that I try to create an entry.

I have a console, really great painting and an ottoman that I have been using.

This is a great place to drop my keys and handbag.  I also use the ottoman to hold packages as I come in.

This has been a really functional space and blends with the living/dining areas.

This shows you how this area is just across from the living and dining.

I am always on the lookout for some way to change things up and add more interest to each room and space in the house.  I thought maybe I would try a chair in place of the ottoman.

This is a small scale chair, so I think it works.  I didn't want something too big that would stick out in the room.

The chair could also be pulled over and used in the living room for additional seating if needed.

I think the chair is a good alternative to the ottoman.  They both work, but it is nice to have a change once in a while.

So what do you think?  Do you have a favorite - chair or ottoman?

  1. What a beautiful entry! The chair is lovely, as well as the ottoman. So welcoming.

  2. I like the chair. Could you use a matching on on the other side the console to add some symmetry???? Or would it be in the way of opening the door?

    1. No there isn't room on the other side for another chair. It would make opening the door a problem and crowd the space. The stair landing is on the far side of where the chair is, so you can't move it all down any farther. I will have to do with one.

  3. I always love a chair in the entryway. A place to sit and pull boots on and off or put my slippers on or my purse of course. Both are lovely but for function. I prefer the chair .

  5. I used to have a similar situation in my marital home, Marty - I had a chair on either side of a piece of furniture. I'd like to see another chair on the other side of your console for symmetry, but either way it looks great!

  7. I vote the chair also, and actually I like only one. It changes the look entirely.

  8. I like it. I think one chair is enough. No need for symmetry with everything. You always have the "eye" for just the right balance in your decor.
