Easing Into Fall – Family Room Makeover

The weather is still a little warm, but my heart is yearning for Fall.  When our New Recliners arrived it was time to redo the family room, so I decided to warm up the colors just a bit by Easing Into Fall – Family Room Makeover.

Thanks so much to Amber @ Follow the Yellow Brick Home for organizing this fun Transitioning Into Fall Blog Hop.  If you came from her blog I am sure you loved her home as much as I do.  At the bottom of the post you will find all the other participants, so be sure to check them all out.

You can check out the hunt for our new Recliners Saga here.  We love the ones we chose and I think they fit the size of the family room well.  When our new recliners were delivered, the furniture shuffle began.  It seems like one change always creates more changes.

We went with these slimline gray leather chairs.  My horse painting is the focal point of the room and it has a ton of gray in it, so the chairs complement the painting really well.  These are a much more streamlined chair than the two wingbacks that were previously here.  The arm profile extends all the way out to the end of the seat with a wood detail on the side.  This gives them a more contemporary look.  Finding recliners that weren’t overstuffed and really huge was a challenge.  I think these are a great mix of style and comfort.  The leather is soooooooo butter soft.

I added a mix of gray linen and luggage color leather pillows to the sofa.  Mixing pillows with a lot of different textures add interest and softens the masculine feel of the room.

There were more changes that took place in the room too.  I previously had two wicker barrel chairs next to the TV, but they didn’t quite work with the new feel of the room.  So another new chair was added.  The wicker chairs were moved to the breakfast room and totally transformed that space.  You can see that post here.

This gorgeous chair matches the one I already had.  My daughter bought it at the same time I bought my gray chair.  We found them at our favorite Model Home Resale store – (Furniture Affair if you live in Phoenix.)  Her’s was done in this gorgeous leather.  She wasn’t using it any longer so she gave it to me for my room makeover.  (I always come out on the good end of furniture swaps from her.)

Even though mine is upholstered in a beautiful gay linen, I love the two chairs together.  They are perfect for each side of the TV and it’s nice to not have totally matchy-matchy.

A small plaid pillow carries all the colors to this side of the room.

We love the new chairs and I think they work well for our space.  It’s fun to have a whole new feel to our room too.

Marty, your space looks so good! I may be a bit biased, as your color scheme is much the same as I am using in our condo’s open space, but it’s very appealing to me. Love the new chairs and the coordinated side chairs on the opposite side. Your pillows and throws always pull your seasonal decor together, and those are quite handsome. You’re all set now in the family room. Happy September!

LOVING that striped leather pillow! I recently found a tutorial for how to sew leather onto a crocheted piece. Pinned this for inspiration – I may make my own.

Marty, the recliners are the perfect color and style for your room. They look great! I love those different throw pillows you used as well. I agree with not having matchy chairs–the different fabrics complement one another so well. Everything looks in perfect harmony, and this has a nice early fall feel. If only the weather could get its act together now!

I have to agree with everyone. Those chairs looks amazing in your room. Love your home.

Your new recliners looks great in your room as do the two chairs that you swapped out on the opposite side of the room. It was nice of your daughter to give you her chair so that you had a coordinating pair to use.

  24. September 4, 2019 / 7:00 am

It all looks really good, Marty.

  25. September 4, 2019 / 7:50 am

Marty, I love your two chairs on the side of the TV and chest. The style is so classic and you’re right that they don’t have to match. The pillow and hat is such a nice touch. The plaid throw on the sofa is great for color and pattern. The horse painting is fabulous. Looks like a very comfortable room.

  26. September 4, 2019 / 2:36 pm

    Marty,
How nice to find two new recliners that fit your family room style and space! It is nice to see a different style of recliner than the big overstuffed versions that take over the whole room. Your two French style chairs are also nicely sized for your room and space on either side of the console with your TV. Very nicely done, Marty. You have a wonderful interior design sense that is both beautiful and functional.

Love the new look in your family room. I am now sufficiently inspired to get the fall things from the attic inspite of the temps still in 100’s here.

  28. September 4, 2019 / 7:40 pm

Marty your family room is gorgeous! I love the contemporary recliners, they look so comfy! The whole room is gorgeous. I’m loving the french style chairs on each side of the tv!

Wow Marty it all looks great, a new look that looks classic and relaxing at the same time. Your new recliners are a great fit. I adore those two mismatched chairs, both of them are gorgeous. The plaid pillow with the gray and the hat is my favorite picture! I always look forward to seeing your seasonal pillow changes.

Have you done a post on how to store pillows and pillow covers? I have tried everything. I bought some big garbage cans that work like vertical totes, I can stack about 8 pillows down in them. I tried to switch over to covers only but I end up not being able to resist some of the pillows at Home Goods. Anyway, your pillows are the best.

Thanks for joining the hop! Looking forward to next week…I just bought a new pillow last night for the tour haha!

I use one of those closet hanging racking for folded things and store all my pillow covers by color in them. I always just take the pillow forms out of some pillows that come with them and then add a zipper if they don’t have one. Otherwise I would need a whole room. haha

Marty, I love your new recliners! They’re much more stylish than those large, overstuffed ones. I also love the touches you’ve added to make your family room look like fall, especially your pillows and throw.
