Capsule Holiday Wardrobe Ideas

With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, I need to figure out my wardrobe needs.  I am not a big fashionista, but I do want to try and pull myself together.  I put together a few Capsule Holiday Wardrobe Ideas.

It has been really hard for me the last three months since Jim’s passing to want to spend a lot of time on me.  Most days just doing my hair and putting on a little makeup is about all I can manage.  I still have moments of uncontrollable crying, so there goes the makeup, and I look awful. Then add in the fact that most days I have on a pair of leggings and a button-down shirt – that has become my uniform.   Not what I need to be wearing for the holidays.

We have two wonderful closets in our Master Bedroom, I use the walk-in closet as mine and Jim always used the 8′ sliding door closet as his.  That let me decorate my closet a little and also arrange my clothes in sections for every day and more dressy.

I have a closet full of nice things, so I need to put some wardrobe ideas together and pull myself together too.  I always tried to look halfway put together for Jim, so I need to think about him when I get dressed.

I am having company for Thanksgiving and we will be doing some sight-seeing around town.  I need a couple of casual outfits that look amazing and a few outfits that can go a little dressier.  If I put together a capsule wardrobe, then I can be ready for any outing.

Classic Casual with a touch of class.  Dark blue jeans or black slacks, black tee, and a camel suede jacket.  Add some leopard flats and this is a favorite outfit.

I love this polka dot shirt, it is amazing.  Perfect with jeans or add black slacks and it is upgraded just a touch, but still casual.  I love that this shirt can be worn untucked like a lightweight jacket.

Left untucked this is a really cute outfit.  Still dressier than just a tee, but not over the top.  Silk blouse and black slacks.

Add a blazer to any blouse and it can be dressy or casual.  I have tons of blouses and tees that I can use.

For something dressy, this sweater with feather sleeves.  Add some sequin pumps and I am good to go.

Then it is time to think about more casual outfits.

For something casual around the house or out and about – Dark Blue Jeans and a favorite Blue & White shirt.  This looks pulled together and if it’s a little cooler, then I can add a tee underneath or even a cute denim jacket.

This cute polka dot shirt is a winner too.  I love this shirt, semi-fitted, and very flattering.

I love shirts and have a boat load of them.  Great with leggings or jeans.  I still love them for around the house.

I also like to have a lightweight sweater ready to go, and this one with gold trim is perfect for the holidays. Jeans, a red tee and this sweater and it looks like the holidays.

I replenished some of my makeup too and now I think I have everything I need.

I think all of these outfits will carry me through the holidays and all I did was shop my closet.  Some of the items I am using are sold out, so I found something similar that would work just as well if you are putting together a few new outfits too.

What a lovely idea to add to the specialness of the holidays and personally be uplifting as well. Beautiful choices and like you, I have a boat full of various tops and can’t seem to be able to part with any of them. 🙂

What a pretty capsule wardrobe you have picked out & didn’t even have to go shopping! You have a beautiful , organized closet too. Do you know where you got the box with a lid (beige & white) on your top shelf? Thanks for your post today!

All the boxes on that shelf are from the Christmas Gift Box collection from Target a few years ago.

Marty: Even after 3 years I am still crying. The holidays are very hard. I only have one child and all my other relatives live on the east coast. I hate living alone, but that is the way it is.

    It gets easier, not better.

I think it is such a great idea to shop your closet to come up with a holiday capsule wardrobe!!! I can see you have great taste:) I hope when you put yourself together each day you can still do that for Jim, because after all is will always be within you.

Marty, you always have a good closet to shop ! And the closet itself is pretty. My favorite is the black sweater with feathers.
You are in our prayers every day. You go right ahead and cry. We have you covered.

Marty, all so pretty. I am a believer in shopping your closet as well as shopping your house to redecorate. Would you mind sharing the brands of your favorite leggings and where you buy them.. I love leggings, but haven’t found the perfect ones. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving with your company. You definitely have a great wardrobe picked out.

Thanks so much. I love leggings too. My favorites are Lou & Grey from The Loft and my everyday ones are from Old Navy. They are light weight and wash up like a dream, plus they are really inexpensive too.
