At Home, Church or Friends Holiday Wardrobe Ideas

Things are so different this year.  Most of us aren’t having the big family Christmas get together that we usually have.  We are either having a small group at home, getting together with a small group of friends, or just going to our usual Church service and that is it.  Even though things will be smaller than usual, I really want to make the most we can of this Christmas.  I want so much to have something that feels fun and festive. We all need something at least semi-normal and special.  I’m going to bake all the same breads, cookies, and pies – just not so much and cook us a nice Ham Christmas dinner.

I also want to dress up a little like I normally would.  Nothing super fancy, just something with the holiday spirit. We were usually invited to a couple of Christmas Parties, one more formal, and that was always so much fun. Our family would normally all go to Church together, then back to my daughter’s house for dinner and gift exchange.  We draw names, so that makes it even more fun.  Here is a pic from last year. There were 18 of us and we all had so much fun.  I wore my striped shirt jacket with a black sweater and black pants.

I shopped my closet for a few ideas for both Christmas and the New Year.  These are just basic pieces that can be dressed up a bit.

For a small family gathering at Christmas, I am thinking really casual

If I feel like I want Dressy Casual, then these outfits would work.

Cream striped silk blouse left untucked with some cream slacks and my leopard flats.

I just wore this to lunch with the girls, so it’s a little wrinkled, but it’s one of my favorite outfits so I had to share it.  Striped blouse, black turtleneck, cream slacks, and beige flats.

I like to wear jeans too and dress them up just a bit.  So mostly I substitute cute shoes instead of tennies.

This cotton shirt and dark jeans look a little more polished but still really casual.  This is a great shirt to use as a light jacket.  Just add a turtleneck underneath and you are good to go.

A sparkly tee shirt and jeans with my patent shoes.

I also really like a sparkly tee and tennies with jeans.

Since there is just us, I will probably wear this fun feather sweater, jeans and add my leopard shoes. (I am sharing a similar feather blouse that is 40% off.  Check out the shop the look images)

If there is a more dressy Christmas party or for the New Years, then I like to dress up a bit more.

You’ve seen these outfits several times before, but they are just so super basic that you can mix and match and dress up or down season after season.

I think every wardrobe needs that little basic black dress.  Nothing fancy, just a plain simple black dress.  Add some jewelry, jacket, or shawl and you can go anywhere in the world for just about any occasion.

I added this sequin sweater I’ve had for years and now you are a little more formal. (After Christmas and before the New Years’ you can usually find all kinds of dressy sweaters and tops on sale.)

This cut leather top is a favorite too.  I grab this several times a year.  Black turtleneck top and black slacks are as basic as that little black dress.

This cut lace jacket works with white pants or black and is fun for a Summer Soiree or Winter Holiday party.

It works just as well with all black.

This fun Feather Sleeve sweater and a pair of black pants is understated elegance that is a favorite go-to for almost anything.

A pretty silk blouse can take you just about anywhere.  White pants for summer and how about some black velvet pants or slacks for the holiday.  That makes it a little more dressy.

I also think a simple shirt jacket is essential for every wardrobe.  White or black pants with this one will always be a winner.

These are all things I have in my wardrobe that I wear year after year.  If you find a few things that you can dress up or down, then you can be ready for any occasion anytime.

Below are a few things I found that you could add to your wardrobe and create your own Holiday Looks – dressed up or down.
