Getting Organized – Tiny Linen Closet

The new year always makes me want to get organized.  Some of the spaces that seem to get out of control are the Pantry and Linen Closet.  I think I have some great storage ideas that really help to keep all that clutter under control.  It’s nice to see what you have and be able to grab everything you want in one quick step.  Here are a few tips I use for Getting Organized – Tiny Linen Closet.

This house has the same tiniest linen closet in history just like my last house.  Not sure why builders think stealing 2ft. from a bedroom closet and calling it a linen closet is such a great idea.  Here is the tiny linen closet in my current home.

The linen closet in our house is where everyone can find extra first aid products, soaps, toothpaste and hair care.  It’s also where we have all the varied light bulbs we might need.  With such a tiny linen closet, that wasn’t about to happen on those little shelves, so I found a fabulous way to corral all that stuff.  Door Shelves.  The only problem is I needed one that was only 12 inches wide.  The door you see is only 17″ wide, so I needed really narrow shelves.

I finally found this one on Amazon.  It is only 12 inches wide – perfect for this tiny door.  They advertise them as over the door units, but as you can see, you can screw them to the wall or a door.

This is a total game-changer.  I had one of these in my last home too and it was a lifesaver there too.

These work great.  The shelves are recessed far enough in that the door closes with no problem.  Now I have room for my towels and sheets and we can see what we need.  (As you can see, the closet is located next to two of the bedrooms and right across from the hall bathroom upstairs.

Since these fabulous shelves come in all kinds of sizes, I use two in my pantry. My kitchen isn’t really big, so this walk-in pantry makes up for the size of the kitchen in spades.  Perfect to hold all those small things that seem to hide in baskets or just create clutter.

We entertain a lot and I love to cook, so my pantry isn’t one of those styled and pretty pantries.  Mine is a “MINI MART” that holds anything I might need for any recipe.  It also holds all those small appliances we need and some of my favorite casserole and baking dishes.

I had one of these on the door of my last pantry, it really made all the difference in how that small closet pantry worked too.

If you need to get organized in your linen closet or pantry, be sure to check these shelf units out.  You might just find the perfect one for your needs.  (This is not a sponsored post – I just like to share when I find something that really works for me.)

    Morning Marty,
Thank you for this great reminder. Am wanting to do my linen closet as well, and have one of those door hanger units in my pantry we put in years ago but never thought of putting one in my linen closet. Going to check right now and see if it is a possiblility.
We love the one in the pantry, so don’t know why I never thought of it before. Maybe cause I have things corralled in baskets but it gives you areas that are unused on the shelf that things get stuffed into……..lol
Hope this finds you doing well hon…..I am still trying to finish putting my house back together, having trouble getting my mojo on for
some reason, have taken some stuff down, and trying to decide if I want to leave other things up………decisions….decisions. lol
    Take care hon,
Love and Blessings for a good New Year,
    Nellie

Marty, you are the queen of organizing! Love seeing what you are doing and appreciate the inspiration. I have door shelves on the inside of one of the pantry doors. Our pantry was a regular size closet with sliding doors. The Urban Farmer put up French doors and added shelving. Sure is a boon in a small home.

I moved from a custom home that we built in Florida, to an already built basic builder’s home in Atlanta. It has NO linen closet! Who designs these things? The same person that has no light over the kitchen sink so that you are always doing dishes in your own shadow.

We have recently moved into a smaller home and our pantry door is the size of your closet door. We had door storage in our previous home’s pantry and it was a wonderful organizational tool; however the door in this home has a handle and not a door knob making a continuous unit impossible . It has been difficult to find the dimensions we need in stores, so will check out Amazon. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

Totally agree about size of linen closets. No room for bed sheets! I have purged and still not enough space. The small door shelves might be just the solution. Very helpful.
    Thank-you!
