Adding Warmth & Texture With Plants

Adding Warmth & Texture With Plants.  Adding Plants & Trees To Your Decor can be one of your best decorating tools, they just make a room come to life.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that my family room has been the one room with about a million changes.  It’s not a large room and it is the one room in the house that seemed to be the hardest for me to find the right furniture arrangement and make it feel like me.

I think the changes in my family room really demonstrate just how important plants can be to make any room feel finished and welcoming.

This was about my 7th try at creating a room I loved.  This is not a big room, so when we bought a larger TV, things really needed to change.  The previous console table and chairs on each side just didn’t seem to work anymore.

The new TV was way too big to sit on the old console, so I brought in the library table from the entrance hall.  (I couldn’t find a console that I liked, so this would have to do for now.)  It was wall-to-wall furniture that made me feel closed in and really leggy.  This wall needs something substantial to ground it.

Since I love plants and know how much they add to any room, I knew I wanted to add some plants to this room.  If you can add a tree, that is even better, so I went shopping.  I found a fabulous ficus and some ivy.  I was thinking about a faux olive tree since they are so “in” at the moment.  But real plants are always so much prettier.  I found a twisted trunk Ficus that was only $59 (half of what a mediocre faux olive would cost) and love how pretty it is.

My daughter gave me a cutting she started off a Fiddle Fig Leaf.  It was sitting in a pretty basket, so I looked for another basket to hold the Ficus.  I added some Ivy around the base of the Ficus to fill in and drape over the edge.  I love this combination, so pretty.

Not so many legs now, this is so much better and much more interesting.

Finally, I found a console that I really liked and the room just seemed to fall into place.  I love this room now, and it definitely is me.

Here’s another example of how a plant adds interest to my living room.  This room has 2 story walls, so the plant adds tons of softness to that corner.

This corner of the master bedroom has added interest with a plant too.  This is not a big enough space for a chair or furniture, so the plant is a great accent.

I love to add plants to tabletops too.  Real or Faux, I love how plants add so much to any room.    Try some out in your own home and see how they can change things up and create such warm and welcoming spaces.
