My $15 Frenchy Chair Redone

Remember the really pretty frenchy chair I found at Goodwill for $15. See post here.  Well when I got back from Oregon, I could hardly wait to start on it.  I put it here by the dresser just to get it out of the road while I was gone, but it is really crowded on this wall next to the settee.

The cushion and seat were in decent condition and the fabric was perfect for my bedroom, but the arms really needed to be redone and the wood was really dry and scratched.  I still want to get a new piece of foam and recover the cushion, but for now the arms are the worst.

So, out came the drop cloth and some walnut stain and I went to town.  First I removed the upholstery from the arms, I have a fabric that will coordinate with the cushion so I am going to use it.  There must have been a million (exaggeration) staples in these two little arms.

See how dry and worn the wood in.  The top flowers are almost raw wood

MinWax Walnut stain to the rescue.  It looks so much better.  (See that ugly dirty fabric is gone from the arms.)

Now the top flowers are the same color as the back of the chair.

I know the flowers look dark, but overall, this is the color of the wood.

Major improvement already.  I saved the fabric from the arms to use as a pattern.  Now to let this dry overnight and then I can recover it.

I found this fabric at JoAnn’s and it was the perfect color match to the cushion.  I bought 1/4 yard, so only $5.00.

Here’s the nasty worn piece that I removed.  Great for a pattern.

If I am going to do very much of this, I really need a better stapler, however, this did the trick.

Next I glued some gimp on that I also found at JoAnn’s.  Perfect color too.  Does a wonderful job of hiding my bad staple job.

All done, this chair is so much better now.

Remember this chair that I use to have here in the master bedroom,

well, I think this is a really fabulous upgrade don’t you?

Yes, I moved the gold and silver garden stool over here too and added a pillow from the settee.

I showed you my newest garden stool that I found here,

so of course it had to go here, perfect isn’t it.  See how nice it looks.

The soft aqua makes the bedroom look so much cooler for these really, really hot summer days.

I think the chair compliments the rest of the room, don’t you?
