Answers to How I Did the Shower Curtain

Thank you all so much for the fabulous response to my hall bathroom redo.  It has been a fun challenge to put together on a budget and just shopping the house.  I had quite a few email me questions about the shower curtain so I thought I would give you a post answering your questions.

I used drapery fabric left over from the familyroom topper since I was on a $0 budget.  It is a poly blend, so it is a fabric that will withstand a little moisture from the shower.  I like to take the curtain all the way to the ceiling, it just makes the room feel bigger and it also adds a ton of drama.  If the shower curtain is lower it just seems to cut the room in half, also, if it is closed, then the room is even smaller yet.  High up and tied back is my style.

I layer two rods one behind the other.  The back one holds my real shower curtain that is to be used.  The two rods really look just fine, they don’t distract from the look at all.

I like the nylon type of shower curtain.  You can find them on line or in several specialty stores in the longer lengths.  My ceilings are 9 ft., so the 8 ft. one works perfectly.  It comes dow a few inches from the ceiling and still has plenty to go inside the tub to catch all the water.  The nylon ones are also really soft so they tuck back behind the outer curtain when you push them back against the wall.  If you can’t find the longer one in your area, you can actually sew two together to get the length you want.

The outer curtain is simple to make with just a rod pocket at the top, or you can also buy drapes in this length, so you don’t even have to know how to sew.

I think this kind of treatment definitely gives a really small builder basic bathroom some character.

Lovely. I am planning to use a discarded (although still new and beautiful) dining room curtain for the shower in my newly remodeled bathroom and was not sure how to do it. I was thinking of a double rod… Thanks for sharing. (I also love the picture and the platers on the wall.)
