Family Room New Console

Wow, the family room new console turned out to be more of a project than I anticipated.   Our new chest for the family room arrived and it was a major DIY project.  I wasn’t prepared for it to come in so many pieces.  I guess I haven’t bought any furniture online is a long time, so I didn’t understand the term “some assembly”.   This is hubby starting to read the booklet of instructions that came with this project.

There just seemed to be parts and pieces everywhere.  This took a while, but hubby and I got it all put together and it looks amazing.

I couldn’t wait to put it into place to see how it was going to look.  I love the style and color.  Nice to have some lighter wood in the room.  The unit is going to be perfect and the extra storage is always nice.  Next was to take down the gallery and hang the tv on the wall.  I couldn’t wait – I ordered the pieces and in about a week everything was here.

Finally all done.  That gallery had been moved so many times and  then there were holes from Christmas decorations.  Time to fill all those holes and paint the wall.   It looks so nice in the room and having the TV hang on the wall was the final project.  Adding a new modern family room console totally pulled the room together. It was the finishing piece that made the room look cohesive.

Super Bowl and a bigger TV started this whole thing.  Seems like one thing always leads to another. A new cabinet was in order for sure.

My buffet table was a good stand-in for a while, but the new table looks so much better.   You can check out all the changes in this room here.  This room has been constantly evolving.

I don’t feel like we need a gallery or maybe not even any artwork – I will have to live with it for a while to see.  Right now I am loving the clean lines of the wall.

I really like the wood tone and finish on this piece.  It has some gray tones that go with the gray chair. (See that wonderful Silver Anniversary Clock – well that piece has a story to tell.  Hubby surprised me with it all engraved and beautifully wrapped for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.  I took one look and started to cry – I totally forgot the day.  I didn’t even give him a card, I just totally forgot the day – nothing, nada, not even a single thing.  I keep it in plain sight to remind me to remember what a big mistake I made and to not do it again.  Hubby just laughed it off, but how could I forget such a special day as our 25th Anniversary!!!!!!)  June we will celebrate 35 years, so I am putting all kinds of notes all over my desk so I don’t forget.  I definitely don’t want to forget 50 if we make it that far.

The new console fits the size of the room perfectly – plus I have another surface to decorate.

This is definitely a keeper.

I think I will call this room done for now.  It feels good and feels like me.

The room looks done to me! Well done getting the cabinet made – looks fantastic. All your accessories go so well together. I have a room like that, never seems finished my dining room. Funny it is a lovely room – bay window gets lovely light but do you think I can call it done? I had a wingback chair in there but that is now in our bedroom it looks good there too – oh I don’t know. I keep wondering how I can not get my favourite room right??? Stay safex

I really like the console and the hanging tv. It was funny when I started reading I thought the gallery was there to stay and I was wondering ,”we are supposed to be only nice now so how do I say remove the pictures”! Ha. Well, I was thrilled to see they were temporary as you finished the wall. That console really sharpens the look of the room…Good job.

The wood tones and lines of the console are perfect for your room! Opening up a package and seeing how many parts is daunting. I like the way you have dressed the console…just right.

Thanks so much, it really did look daunting with so many pieces, but it is a great piece and really wasn’t that hard to assemble. Marty

I agree with statements above that your room is done. It looks fantastic. You don’t need art the console, hanging TV, and items on the console absolutely compliment all of the pieces in your room. Don’t add anything else. It is now perfect.

The mounted TV looks perfect in that spot. Did you have an electrician install it (hiding all wires)? If not, how did you disguise the wiring? Thank you!

Since it was an interior wall there are no boards between studs. We simply drilled a hole in the wall at the top and bottom and fished the wires through. Super simple. Three are outlet covers to place over the holes so everything looks nice and neat. You can buy the tv hanging brackets everywhere and we ordered to wire hole covers from Amazon. Really easy. There are some super you tube tutorials that show how to do it. Marty

I just found your blog on Pinterest. My husband and I moved into a condo a year and a half ago and we are still trying to decorate. Your room looks very pulled together.
Will you share what color are your walls and trim? Thanks.

Thanks so much, so glad you found my sight, thanks for looking around. The color for the walls and trim is Swiss Coffee. I like it, it is a simple white that is not yellow gray or blue. Just a simple off white.

Hi Marty, The room looks great , but that isn’t the reason for this email.I want you toknow that lately I have been having a terrible time getting on your site.My cursor jumps all over and the post doesn’t advance. It keeps saying it ti trying to establish a secure connection. I love your posts but may have to stop trying because of the frustration it causes. I wonder if anyone else has been having this issue, or is it just me? I have no problems on other blogs and hope this clears up soon. I would miss you so much.Stay well.xo

I am so sorry. I haven’t heard from anyone else that they are having a problem so I am not sure what is causing it. I hope it clears up for you. Marty

I had that problem one night with a Zoom meeting. Not only did it jump around, but I had to keep signing in and finally gave up. Cut the computer off and later it worked fine.

Thanks so much. Some rooms just seem hard and some fall together. This one was a puzzle. Most of our furniture from the old house didn’t work, so starting from scratch finally got the right pieces in play. Marty

Marty! The console is perfect and gives balance to your tv screen. The mounted tv is a great angle for viewing in your comfy recliners! Great job pulling this room together in such a harmonious and balanced way.

Absolutely love the new console and the TV on the wall. It looks great. I think everything looks great together, except the chair by the console. The style is incongruous with the rest of the room – to me. I wasn’t bothered by the other console, but you are absolutely right – this one is perfect.

  17. May 7, 2020 / 10:25 pm

I think it looks great. I had to laugh about pieces all over the room. Seems like I have said several times “If I win the lottery, I am never putting anything together again that involves a screwdriver !”

Your family room really looks fantastic now. Love the new furniture piece. If I ordered that there would be no way without help I would be able to put It together. I am very unhandy to say the least. Every time I see this room I am drawn to your cowhide rug. A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to buy one & it was such a good price. Been kicking myself ever since for not getting it. I also really like your paint color. Everyone seems to be doing grey now & while I like it, the simple off white color to me is just a perfect choice. Will always be in style & you can put any color with it, cool & warm tones. Looking forward to seeing more pics of your patio & lovely pool this spring & summer.

Thanks so much Cindy for such gracious compliments. I am so pleased with the new console, but it really was a task to put it together. Hubby did a great job. I love my cowhide rug also, it is such a fun piece to have. I also agree with you about the gray. I love some gray accents, but I love the white walls. We were in the pool today, it is such a blessing with the warm weather. I love having it. Thanks again, Marty

Really like the way the new piece adds a bit of rustic to the refined look of this room. You did a great job figuring out what was needed and sharing the journey was helpful to me.

    Thanks!
