How To Create A Cozy Neutral Room

With Christmas over and all the bright colors and glitter gone, I am loving spaces that are neutral and cozy.  Sometimes a neutral room can be so bland, just nothing to grab your attention.  First off, neutral doesn’t have to be all white or beige.  It can have color, just not color that shouts.  The main thing is to have enough texture to give the room some interest.  Here are a few tips on How To Create A Cozy Neutral Room.

At first glance as you start to enter this room, you see a variety of wood tones and metal finishes.  The room is basically white and beige, but it doesn’t feel cold.

As you walk further into the room you start to feel the warmth of color and texture.  Color can be warm no matter what color you use if there is enough texture to make it feel like you want to cuddle up.  Bright shiny fabric can be fabulous, but it doesn’t always make you feel cozy.

How To Create A Cozy Neutral Room

If you were entering from the front door, you don’t see a lot of color, however, you do see different textures in the tile floors, wood furniture, and fabric on the chairs.  The colors on all of these things are warm tones that feel comfy and there are different textures in each item.

Once you walk in the door, you see a cozy seating area with enough color to warm the space up.  Take a look at the texture of all the textiles and the texture of the plants and baskets too. Even the rug is neutral but has tons of texture and interest with its design.  Notice the pillows on the sofa.  One has a basket weave so it ties in with the basket for the plant.  Two are a solid color and have the only real color on the sofa.  The other two have amazing texture with fringe and fabric knots plus soft colors of white, gray, and brown.  Soft neutral colors but you still feel like you want to cuddle up.  Every room needs a little sparkle in my mind, so the gold framed mirror and gold coffee table add just enough shine.

The entry wall is definitely neutral in color.  Gray console, and gray fabric on the chair, but it has tons of texture in the painting and accessories.  So it still doesn’t feel cold.

Play around with texture in your home and give your spaces some character too. Try different things and you will find out how to create a cozy neutral room really is easy.

Here are a couple more Cozy Neutral Rooms from the past.

Cozy Winter Living Room

This room is really mostly white, but the few touches of gray add a bit of color and all the fabrics add interest and again that main element – texture.

This fun crazy throw adds so much texture.  Don’t you feel like you just want to pull it over you and curl up?

Neutral Yellows

Neutral and cozy doesn’t have to be white, it can have color.  No contrast here to break the eye, just a lot of yellow in different fabrics with pattern and texture.

I’m sure you’ve noticed the main theme throughout this post – it’s texture.  Texture can be soft and cuddly or it can be bright and shiny.  Each will give you a different feel.  Both can be found in every style of decor from Farmhouse to Modern.  It all depends on what you want your room to look like and how you want it to feel.  Sometimes I love for my space to feel bright and shiny and sometimes I want it to feel soft and cuddly. Both will give your space tons of character. I think it all depends on the season and my mood.

    Hi Marty,
I have always loved how you can use neutrals and add glass, wood and a few bling items to your decor and it looks so cozy and elegant. Just beautiful ideas. Happy Thursday. Have a wonderful day.
