Inviting Summer Bedrooms – My Home

Welcome to Inviting Summer Bedrooms.  Some of your favorite bloggers are sharing their Inviting Summer Bedrooms over the next 3 days.  You don’t want to miss a single tour.  I am sure you will find tons of inspiration to decorate your bedrooms too.

I am thrilled to be starting off the tours today.  Be sure to check the lineup at the bottom of my post to see all the other amazing bedrooms today and through the rest of the week.

Summer in Arizona means some pretty hot temperatures.  We will be in the 110’s to 115’s for a few days and sometimes even hotter than that for a day or so.  We have great air conditioning and our homes are really well insulated, so the inside is always nice and comfy.  I am so grateful to have the pool so I can enjoy outside too.  I spend a lot of time jumping in and out of the water to cool down.

With the warm temps, I like a more is less decor for the summer.  It just seems when you use restraint everything looks uncluttered and cool.  Less decor and definitely less in the way of linens.  Our master bedroom is a nice size with tons of light that always makes the room look inviting and happy.  Like a lot of you, I have my favorite colors and soft camel is one of my favorite colors for this room.  I have looked for a couple of years for a great camel-colored quilt or coverlet and never could find the right color and fabric that I liked.  Then by chance, I found this fabulous quilt at Target the other day and it is perfect.

Love the linen-like fabric and the heavy stitch quilting pattern.  Perfect find, I absolutely love it.  I found the shams online and I’ve ordered them.  Can’t wait to get them.

The headboard has fabric that is a deep deep chocolate (almost black) with a camel design.  I love it and I can use other colors, but since the carpet and headboard are both brown with camel, that color just seems to make this room come to life.  (The headboard was a thrifty find for $79.50 and one of my favorite DIY projects.  You can see the step-by-step makeover here.)  I usually have several layers of pillows, but as I said, for summer I like less is more.  These three pillows add just the right amount of color and texture to make the bed interesting.

I did make one furniture change in the room.  There’s not really a different way the furniture layout can go, but I swapped out one piece that was looking like it didn’t belong.  This is what the room looked like before.   I took the black jewelry armoire that I love and hubby gave to me when we were dating and put it in the closet.  I rearranged a few things and made it work, so now I could do something else in that corner.  The armoire always looked like it was just shoved into the corner in front of the window.

I had thought maybe I could put a small chair in that corner, but the wall is only about 20 inches wide.  With a chair there you can’t open the closet door all the way.  So I added a pretty plant and kept the ottoman that I had under the window.  The plant is small now and light and airy, but it will grow and still not block the light from the window or block the door from opening.  Plus this plant can stand some of the brighter sun that shines in the mornings.

I like how the bedroom looks more open without the black armoire stuck in the corner.

Love this quilt, the room just seems finished now.

I’m glad I added the plant, it gave the room a whole different look.

Marty, thanks for organizing our group. Your summer bedroom is so pretty. I love caramel-colored accents. And your quilt is so beautiful. I got the quilt at the end of my bed at Target too. What a clever idea to put a pretty stool with a lumbar pillow on it to make a little chair. Very well done, my friend! Happy Summer!
