Trying To Figure Out The Final Details every room needs

Do you ever wonder why a room looks just ok, not sensational?  I do all the time.  You know, the one thing that doesn’t grab your attention, but just finishes off a room.  I fuss over the right furniture and arrangement, then I start adding in accessories.  Adding the perfect accessories is like adding the final jewelry and accessories for each outfit you put on.  Trying To Figure Out The Final Details every room needs is always where I get stuck.

This isn’t usually anything that is earth-shattering, just something simple and almost unnoticed.  Just that one thing that says welcome, cozy, inviting, and finished.  I don’t like minimalist, but I don’t like maximalist either.  I just want a room to feel inviting and “finished”.

A few weeks ago, I stripped down the master bedroom to create a cooler-looking and feeling room for summer.  I took away a beautiful quilt that I had at the foot of the bed and changed up a few accessories.  (You can see that room here.)  Here is what the room looked like when it was stripped down.  It looks fresh, uncluttered, and crisp for summer.

The pillows are all pretty and not too many.  The more I looked at the room, it just fell a little short of the mark to me.  I needed something to warm it up a bit without adding anything that would keep the room from looking cool for summer.  I started looking at rooms on Pinterest and ones that I made over in the past.  I found a common thread that for me usually made a room look finished.

One simple addition was all I needed.  Even in the summer if I want to take a nap, I need a light cover.  I don’t want to turn the bed down, I want to just jump on the bed, pull up something to cover me a little, and take a short nap.  Adding a throw was the answer and such an unsung hero in the decorating world.  A throw can make such a difference in almost any room.

Now the room looks totally finished, the last detail in place.

As I looked around the house, I found the same thing in several other rooms.  The Guest Bedroom looked really pretty, but – – –

Adding a welcoming tray and throw was the final finishing touch.

Walking around the house I found a common thread.  Imagine the living room without the throw.  It doesn’t demand attention, it just adds that final touch.  This would be a pretty room without it, but so much better with it.  Doesn’t the throw just make you feel like you could sit down and relax.  Without it the room would look more formal.

The same thing goes for the family room.  Our two recliners always looked like a black hole, then when I followed you guys’ advice and added some color, pattern, and softness everything changed.  Here is how the room looked when I asked you guys for help.

The throw here was the main source of the purple in the room.

I love how much a throw can add to a room.  So can a plant or floral arrangement, maybe an eye-catching candle arrangement.  When you think you are done, take one final look and see if you need to add anything.

Here are a few of my favorite throws.  I love how they come in so many colors and patterns.  It’s always easy to find one that works for your room and decor.
