My First House Had A Barbie Kitchen

I am enjoying seeing all the retro kitchens and decor with the new Barbie craze.  My first house had a Barbie Kitchen.  It was a 1000sf 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath ranch style home in San Diego.  I was a newlywed and thought this home was amazing.  Totally builder basic, but such a cutie.

The builder didn’t offer many options.  When the house was built, you had your choice of either a turquoise or pink kitchen.  My home had a pink kitchen.  Tons of cabinets in this tiny house.  Those cabinets above the windows held all of my special serving pieces that I didn’t need every day.  Plenty of drawer space too.  There were 4 drawers on each side of the sink.

I was amazed to find this photo online because I don’t have any pictures of my own kitchen.  However, this is the exact one I had.  The refrigerator sat next to the ovens and to the left of the sink cabinet was a washing machine.  Both of those were pink also.  We didn’t have a clothes dryer but I did have a clothesline in the back yard.  I loved that huge window looking out to the back.

This was high style for a young newlywed.  I do remember being so proud of owning my first home and taking care of it.  I loved decorating then too, so I was constantly changing things up just like I do today.

We’ve come a long way and had many kitchens since this one, but it was such a thrill to own and I truly loved my Barbie Kitchen.

Oh, Marty! Thank you so much for sharing! I can just envision your pretty pink kitchen! And, that big window above the sink had to be so lovely. I took a closer look at the flooring and I think I had that very flooring in our first home (less than 1000sf, and with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath) – the light colored linoleum. I absolutely loved it – it looked so pretty when freshly mopped and waxed. And, even to this day, I would find it much easier to maintain than our current tile and grout. And our Formica counter were very easy to maintain as well. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane and for jogging my memory of our first little kitchen.

    Hi Marty,
I also had a Barbie kitchen. I loved everything about it. Pink is my color. It always has been. I love to work it in with everything else.

    Hello Marty,
Wow a Pink kitchen! I’ve never seen that before. You’ve been there and done it! My first kitchen colors were avocado green. Pretty ugly in my opinion and orange shag carpet in living room. The bathroom had avocado porcelain pieces too!

I think the pink is much nicer. Thanks for sharing!
