Spring Container Gardening

Spring Container Gardening.  I love fresh veggies from the garden, they taste so good and it’s fun to just walk out in the backyard and pick a few things for a great salad.  Jim could grow anything, he had such a green thumb.  You can see part of the raised bed that he added on this side of the yard.  Last year I tried my hand at a few seeds and had a small garden.  Time to buy some plants and seeds and get them in the ground this year.  Our temperatures are perfect for planting.  70 during the day and around 50 at night.  Perfect weather.

I am thrilled to be joining Cindy @ County Road 407 for the March Pinterest Challenge.  Cindy has challenged us to share our Container Gardening Tipe.  Mine is not the normal container, but instead a small garden bed.  Time for some great veggies to be planted.

If you are coming over from The Crowned Goat,  welcome.  I know you will love her beautiful flowers and how she shares tips and ideas for container gardening.

Things were starting to grow pretty well in this picture.  This was last year, but you see how you can use a small space to grow a multitude of veggies.

This is how my space looks now.  I love that it gets some morning shade and a bit of shade from the tree in the afternoon, this is a huge help.  When the temperature gets really hot later in the summer, I can add some shade cloth across the top of the trellises to add more shade.

I left all the trellises in for this year so we could grow beans and other climbing vegetables.  I bought a selection of seeds and a couple of starter plants that were available at the garden store.

It doesn’t look like much yet, but it will in no time.  I’ll pull the bird netting down to keep the birds from pecking all the small veggies as they start to develope.

Beans, cucumbers and lots of green, yellow and red peppers on this side so far.

This nd has 6 tomato plants that I know we will enjoy.  The center back has hot peppers we like for cooking and the front has some strawberry plants.  I still need to plant the carrot and radish seeds in the empty space.  This is going to be a great little kitchen garden that we will really enjoy.

This is what the other side of the yard looks like for spring.

Everything has been pruned and ready for spring and summer.  The pool is getting warm and almost ready to swim in.  The temperature of the water yesterday was 78 degrees.  I like it about 80, I think I am a little wimp.

If you are just starting out, this is a great post to show how you can begin with Easy and Inexpensive Bag Gardening.  Plant right in garden planting mix bags.

Marty, I love that you’ve got your vegetable garden going! I really worked on getting started early by keeping seedlings inside the shed and tomato plants, too. I’ve been trying to start seeds to save money, and I bet you could do the same. 🙂 Your garden reminds me to get some bell peppers going… 😉

Enjoy your garden and Happy Easter!

Marty, It sure looks like you will have a wonderful kitchen garden this year. There are so many yummy veggies to choose from. I can’t believe your pool is already 78 degrees; lucky you. We won’t get our water that warm for a few more months. Enjoy

Your garden is amazing Marty, I love how you can get so much in a smaller space, and that netting to keep the birds away is genius! Your yard looks so beautiful and ready for summer! When we had a pool in Florida, I never got in unless it was at least 80 lol!

Marty, your garden proves that you don’t have to have a large area to produce vegetables. I had never heard of bag gardening. What an innovative idea! For some reason I thought you lived up north. Arizona definitely has a different climate. Thanks for the information.
