What A Small Can of Paint Can do. One of the things I loved about our house when we bought it was the fact that not a single upgrade had been done. Our home was 100% builder basic. We had several areas we wanted to upgrade, with the kitchen #1 on our priority list. Our contractor was available just a couple of weeks after we moved in, so we got busy. Next, it was time to make a few simple upgrades to a couple of spaces in need of help.

During that makeover, we were replacing the linoleum floors with Luxury Vinyl Planks by Nu Core. We had some leftover, so we decided to replace the linoleum in both bathrooms and the powder room.

After the new floors, I just added a few accessories and called it good. Clean and presentable.

I just ignored this room for a while and concentrated on other areas that were in need of help. Finally I thought it was time to give this room a little love. Nothing major, but maybe a little imagination. I saw several great transformations by adding an accent wall. So that became my plan. (Not quite as easy as I imagined.)
One coat of paint and if you look close you can see that it is not covering well, and the corners don’t have sharp straight lines.

Our walls are heavily textured. That means a harder than usual painting project.

A second coat and a small brush to painstakingly paint the edges and I finally had a pretty black accent wall.

Now onto my design idea. I wanted to add a pretty floating wood shelf above the toilet and add some art above the shelf. I set a budget of $50. I already owned the larger painting and found the smaller one on etsy that I could print out and frame. I ordered a shelf from Home Depot and started putting my design plan into action.

I love how it turned out. I dug through my stash and found some accessories for the shelf and I was finished.

A DIY project and a few accessories and now my Powder Room doesn’t look Builder Basic at all. Total price -$50.78.
